Orthodontics

Dr. Thiessen has been practicing all phases of general dentistry for over 22 years. He takes great pride in offering his patients complete orthodontics with a neuromuscular background.

Neuromuscular Orthodontics is more than just straightening teeth, it is a life-changing experience!

What is Neuromuscular Orthodontics?

Misaligned teeth not only cause dental problems but can also play a major role in the health of your whole body. That’s why neuromuscular orthodontics is different than traditional orthodontics: there is a whole lot more to neuromuscular orthodontics than just straightening teeth.

Neuromuscular orthodontics utilizes some of the same concepts used in traditional orthodontics, but in addition, neuromuscular orthodontics focuses on placing the teeth in a position that is optimal for the muscles, joints, and teeth.

Traditional orthodontics has focused almost entirely on the skeletal (bone) structures of the teeth, jaw, and joints, but we also incorporate neuromuscular information into treatment planning. We believe it is critical to give careful study to the upper airway and the status of the muscles that control the posture and function of the jaw.

This brings a whole new dimension to treatment planning, not only to precisely evaluate where the teeth should be, but to better understand what caused them to be out of alignment.  The goal is a balanced bite, free of the muscle forces that might otherwise contribute to early relapse.

Innovative Technology

The technology Dr. Thiessen uses includes, but is not limited to, the use of digital x-rays. Digital x-rays expose patients to 80 to 90 percent less radiation than traditional x-rays. He also uses computerized analysis of cephalometric x-rays, computerized bite analysis, joint vibration analysis and TENS muscle relaxation.

Our advanced technology allows us to achieve the neuromuscular information to help prevent and to help treat issues associated with a misaligned bite.

Clear Braces

Clear braces let you live your life, giving you the flexibility you need since it’s clear and removable. These near-invisible braces look great and also gives you a healthy smile. Since clear braces are removable, you can brush and floss normally, which helps prevent tooth decay and related periodontal problems. Thousands of people are smiling brighter thanks to clear braces!

Appliances

Dr. Thiessen uses orthodontic appliances alone or in conjunction with braces to help improve your overall dental health. Orthodontic appliances are designed and fabricated for the treatment of malocclusion (bad bite), which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both.

Appliances utilize the muscle action of the patient to produce orthodontic or orthopaedic forces to change the relationship of the teeth. This technology allows Dr. Thiessen to ensure optimal dental health.
